My name is Eva Sierra-Silvestre. I am originally from Madrid, where I obtained my BSc in Physiotherapy and my MSc in Manual Therapy.

I worked as a clinical physiotherapist and a lecturer before enrolling in a joint PhD between Griffith University, Australia, and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands. I spent one year of my PhD in Amsterdam and three years in Gold Coast & Brisbane. My research interests include pain, neuropathies, and quantitative MRI.

Having worked as a pain clinician made me realise how poorly managed neuropathies are, including entrapment neuropathies, radiculopathies or diabetic neuropathies. My aim is to improve the knowledge of the mechanisms behind neuropathies by broadly assessing the nerve function and structure. To do this, I use state-of-the-art techniques, such as quantitative sensory testing, corneal confocal microscopy, diffusion MRI or shear-wave elastography ultrasound.

I strongly believe that a better understanding of the mechanisms behind neuropathies will improve the treatment people with neuropathies receive.
